Who's running in the 12th District?

Mara Candelaria-Reardon filed to run again in the 12th.

Candelaria Reardon has yet to draw an opponent for either the May primary or the November general election.

So where the hell is Buzzcut and why hasn't he filed yet?

Confession: my wife is TOTALLY against it. We've got a baby on the way in May, and 3 kids under 7. She's worried that its going to mess up my work and family schedule, which it probably will.

On the other hand... Reardon has no opposition! What kind of democracy is it that there is no opposition to incumbants?!?

So... am I running? I don't know. Filing doesn't end for a couple of weeks. I still have time to convince my wife. Or, even better, for a REAL Republican, somebody who knows what the hell they're doing, to get into the race.

George Janic is not going to run again, I have confirmed that. I wouldn't even be considering this if Janic were in, out of respect for the legend.

Buzz, as much as I love your humor and point of view on the issues in our state and in Lake County, I wouldn't do it. If your wife isn't on board, you'll end up miserable.

I looked at running for an open Indiana Senate seat back a few years ago, even travelled to indy to meet with the right people. But in the end, same issue, my wife wasn't keen on the idea and I backed off.

The good/bad news is that we got a terrible senator in Karen Talian who I think is very vurnerable to defeat, and a terrific senator in Ed Charbeneau in the next district over. Maybe it will all work out for the best.

3 kids under 7 and a baby on the way...maybe we should take up a collection and by Mr and Mrs Buzzcut a television.

You are very perceptive BR. No cable in the Buzzcut household!

No donations needed, I wouldn't want cable if you gave it to me. My life would be spent watching "Dirty Jobs" and "Mythbusters" marathons!

A man has to know his limitations.

Steve, on the other hand, everyone who I've talked to for advice says that the wives are almost never "onboard". They tolerate it, barely, at best.

I just keep coming back to, if I don't do this, who will?

You've seen this blog, you know what I think, you've seen that I can put coherant words together and articulate an opinion. Who is going to do that on our side? It is unacceptable that someone as incompetant as Reardon runs unopposed.

I did learn that the deadline is not necessarily the deadline. If no one files on the GOP side, the party can appoint someone.

Hey Buzz - As someone who tilted at windmills here in Marion County for having the audacity to run as a Conservative and a Republican I'd do it.

Just make sure your GOP County Chairman isn't 6-figure legal contracts from Democrat dominated boards. Otherwise you're running against two political parties.

Hi Buzz,

I'd also go with Steve. Your family is the most important thing, so you don't want to make your wife angry by running.

Also, how much money will it cost to run? That's another consideration. It might not be as expensive as running for Congress, but you'll have to at least go to a copy shop to run off some brochures and that will cost some bucks.

Hi Buzz,

Here's something that you can use to help convince your wife. Indiana has a part-time legislature, so you won't be away in Indianapolis all of the time.

It would be pretty cool to see you run just to show people that there are alternatives to the status quo out there.
