Township Assesors: RIP

They're gone as of today.

Seeing as how poor a job the County Auditor and Treasurer do, you're dreaming if you think that the County Assesor is going to do a competant job.

Democrat Mayor of Hammond deletes comments on newspaper website

As far as Lake County Democrat scandals go, Mayor McCheeze of Hammond has hit a new low.

The Times has a website with forums where you can comment on the news. Evidently, threads critical of Mayor McCheeze and Hammond have been mysteriously disappearing.

The Times webmaster traced the account that was deleting the comments back to Hammond City Hall.

When asked by a Times reported about the deleted comments, Mayor McCheeze went into a tirade.

This is not the first time McCheeze has gotten into a tiff with someone critical of him. He has a long running fued with Professor Eisenstein of Purdue Calumet, documented on Eisenstein's blog with post after post. Eisenstein even has a voice mail message left by Mayor McCheeze where McCheeze so much as cusses out the good Professor.

McCheeze is a youngster. He's not old enough to rent a car from Hertz, yet he's running Hammond. His immaturity shows when he faces his critics like a child.

Former Lake County Council President is a racketeer?

Bob Pastrick is the former mayor of East Chicago. He is a Democrat superdelegate, and is a memeber of the Democrat National Comittee. He is one of the Mr. Bigs of both the Indiana Democrat Party as well as the national party.

He is also the target of a RICO lawsuit.

This is part of the "sidewalks for votes" scandal.

A few more of the "bit players" have agreed to testify against Pastrick. One of them just so happens to be the former President of the Lake County Council.

I wonder what Obama thinks about having a DNC member and a superdelegate being racketeers?

Best article ever explaining the Democrats

Who makes up the Democrat party?

In Lake County, most elected Democrats are public employees.

As this article explains, that is not unusual nationwide.

Public employees, health care workers (who ultimately depend on Medicare and Medicair for their livelihood) and "Community Oragnizers" like Barack Obama used to be, and whom depend on government grants for their survival, are the backbone of the Democrat party.

These people are very motivated to elect Democrats, because their livelihoods depend on it.

Lake County Democrat incompetance extends to voting

Lake County Democrats can't even vote right.

At one polling place in Gary there were 2 voting districts.

One district had more actual voters than registered voters.

The other had almost no voters.

Was this voter fraud? No:

What happened was that new machines were used and they have a button on their sides to alter the precinct, so if there is one machine, two precincts can vote on the same machine and have their results tallied independently.

"It appears one person did it correctly," she said. "It was the first time these precincts were merged to save money, and someone simply hit the wrong button. It's not like anyone voted for anyone they should not have. They just voted in the wrong precinct."

Not vote fraud. Vote incompetance.

It was actually an intelligence test. Democrat voters failed the test. Their votes should have been invallidated as a result.

Lake County Democrat Judge Julie Cantrel is corrupt

Lake County Democrat Judge Julie Cantrel, last seen letting illegal immigrants get away with DUI before they go on to kill themselves and others on the road, is involved in another scandal.

Her father, Bob Cantrel, was the former North township Republican chairman. His claim to fame was working secretly with Democrats to run sham candidates, thus ensuring that the Democrat machine held on to power.

He also was a "consultant" for a human services organization. For every person that his daughter Judge Julie sent the way of this organization, Daddy got a kickback. She sent over $500k dollars his way. Details here.

It just so happens that Julie is up for reelection this November.

She should be disbarred, not just thrown out of office.

Everything that is wrong about the Democrats

The police chief in Schereville is also the Chairman of the St. John Township Democrats.

Public employees should be banned from politics. They shouldn't be allowed to vote, hold office, or hold party functions.

How can this guy keep police business separate from politics? It can't be done.

Most Democrat office holders in Lake County are also public employees. You can't separate public employees from corruption unless they're banned from the political process altogether. They just have too much of a vested interest to control the positions that determine their sallaries and benefits.

Lake County Democrat scum infect state and national party

Guess who is on the Democrat National Committee?

Bob Pastrick, former Mayor of East Chicago and unindicted co-conspirator of the sidewalks for bribes scandal.

He's also a superdelagate.

Democrat corruption doesn't end in Lake County.

Summary of Obama's lack of accomplishments

What I've long thought, but never put on my blog.

I used to think that Slick Willey was the luckiest SOB to ever live. I now think that Obama has taken the batton.

If you really think about it, Obama has never won a truly contested election before this primary. He was elected to the Illinois Senate running unopposed. He was elected to the US Senate essentially unopposed in both the primary and general.

The only really contested election he's run in was the one against Bobby Rush, where he got pummeled.

But that was before he started paying David Axelrod...

Property tax rebates are taxable income in '08

An Anonymous commenter does the legwork for me regarding the federal income tax status of the property tax rebates:

http://nwi.com/articles/2007/05/10/news/top_news/doc9f04fdffe816959e862572d7000100c4.txt

State refund checks could muddle federal taxes (From May '07)

...But the checks might not be mailed until early next year, forcing some homeowners to claim the rebates as income on 2008 federal income tax returns. If the checks do arrive before year's end, homeowners who deduct property taxes from their federal returns must remember to subtract the state refund.

"The only people who are going to have worry about it are people who itemize their deductions and take (off) their real estate taxes," said Pat Brummer, an Internal Revenue Service spokeswoman. "People who don't itemize aren't going to have to worry about it."

The IRS allows a standard deduction of $5,150 for individuals and $10,300 for married couples, so the new math created by the state property tax refunds isn't a burden for homeowners who file a simple federal return.

Red light cameras ARE coming to Hammond

Mayor McCheeze signed the ordinance bringing red light cameras to Hammond.

I looked into it, and my GPS unit can be hacked to add the red light cameras to its point-of-interest database, and chime when you are approaching one.

I found a website that has a user generated POI database of red light cameras nationwide. I'm going to add this to my GPS (a Magellan Maestro 3140). Should be useful in Chicago and the various 'burbs like Dolton that have red light cameras too.

I also found out my GPS has a traffic feature. You need to buy an add on and a subscription, but the first year is free, and it only costs $75 or so. I might just have to get one. Cline Ave and the Bohrman are covered if there are accidents. There is nothing I hate more than coming up to Cline and having there be an accident. There is not a lot you can do at that point but suck it up in traffic. It would be nice to know well before that that Cline is backed up.

Michelle Obama hosts "The View" next week

Seeing as how Michelle Obama and "The View" both have a tendency towards controversy, this just could be the gift that keeps on giving.

What stupid thing is Michelle or Whopee going to say? I can't wait!

My newest property tax rebate concern

Now that I've finally got my FULL property tax rebate, I have a new concern: federal income taxes.

I deducted the full property tax amount from my 2007 federal income taxes. Obviously, because of the rebate, I was not entitled to deduct that full amount. I was only entitled to the property taxes actually paid, which was the full amount minus the rebate.

I wonder how Lake County and the State of Indiana are going to inform the feds about the rebate, and if I need to claim it as income in 2008.

It came!!!!

Got my FULL VALUE property tax rebate on Saturday!

It was an extra $500!

It's already been spent. We're putting in a couple more ceiling fans. I like to keep the A/C at 78°, but you really need ceiling fans going for that to be comfortable.

You have to spend money to save money.

State Legislators ride the tollroad for free

State legislators with districts along the tollroad get a free iZoom transponder that they NEVER have to pay tolls on.

How is that not corrupt? They wrote the free tolls into the legislation selling the toll road!

Isn't it funny how, time after time, lawmakers exempt themselves from the stupid laws they impose on the rest of us?

Who gets the property rebate check when the house has been sold?

The new owner.

Sorry Chris, you're screwed.

Not so fast, Hammond!

Red light cameras may not be legal in Indiana.

Zoeller wins AG nomination

The Times made it out to be a big deal that Zoeller won most of the Lake County votes. I'm not surprised. My connections (Hero, Janic, etc.) were all Zoeller guys. Republicans appreciate what he's done to take on Lake County Democrat corruption head on. My hope is that he takes it up a notch when he becomes AG. I would indict pretty much the entire Lake County Democrat organization. They're all criminals, top to bottom.

Sorry guys! I know Costas was popular around here. Nothing against him.

Red light cameras come to Hammond

Does it surprise you that Hammond will be the first community to implement red light cameras?

My wife saw this story and said that people bitch about the oil companies making a 7% profit off gas, but the company running the red light cameras makes a 40% profit. They get $40 on a $100 ticket.

A lot of GPS units now have a feature where they can warn you when you're approaching a red light camera or a speed camera. Maybe that will be my next purchase for the Saab.

Everything that is wrong about Lake County Government

...can be found in this article.

Patricia van Til, County Surveyor George Van Til's wife, is employed as a civillian aide to the Lake County Sherrif.

Despite instructions from the Lake County Council to the contrary, Patricia Van Til gets a take home car.

Keep in mind that George Van Til got busted for letting his son drive his take home car to high school, and for filling up the tank of his personal car with county gas.

END TAKE HOME CARS ONCE AND FOR ALL!!!

Lake County Councilman Larry Blanchard says that Buzzcut is wrong about property tax rebates

...but I don't like his explanation.

In all other years, the credit is given to the taxpayer in the form of a reduction off their tax bill at the time it is prepared, before the math is done to determine whether a taxpayer is eligible for the circuit breaker. Even if a taxpayer qualified for the circuit breaker, the dollar amount deducted from a taxpayer's bill because of application of the homestead credit was always forwarded to the respective units of government, never the taxpayer, because the homestead credit is a "funded credit."

I think that this is irrelevant. The money came from the state. Who cares if it was "funded" or not! The money was there, and there was absolutely no reason to give that money to municipalities.
