In the Feb. 15 edition of The Times, Lake County Councilman Ted Bilski, Democrat from Hobart, is quoted:
"We may have to deal with the ugliest four-letter word in the English language — taxes."
A councilman is truly not able to tell the difference between four and five? Wow. If this is indicative of the Lake County Council, is it any wonder the county finances are in dire straits?
— Marve Lyzenga, Schererville
That pretty much explains everything, doesn't it?
Remember that, way back when, we were talking about which councilman would flip and support an income tax, Ted Bilski was one of the two I was betting would flip. Is this foreshadowing?

Don't be fooled. All the ' Ds' running in the County Council primary are for the income tax. The question is, how much? There is no 1% cap, etc. I would not be surprised if it was around 4%.
There is a big appetite for uncontrolled spending at the County level. Buncich is spending money faster than he is getting it and is spending most of the county money. All the trash lawsuits don't help either.
I am interested in watching communities like Munster. They are ‘Rs’ that will come out against the County income tax and will grandstand. However, the Munster Town Council wants it and needs it. Munster is in a financial bind similar to the County of spending money faster than collected. Why else would the Munster Police Department be begging for money to buy a police dog? Police dogs are money makers if used properly; dogs do have a high barrier costs up front. The Town doesn’t think long term though and is slowly turning into Gary.
I am against the income tax for a few reasons. The biggest, I don't like Mitch Daniels and Lake County does not have an income tax which pisses him off. Also, Lake County has one of the highest property amounts based on assessments.
Also, if you listen to WJOB, you will see the mouth pieces there come out for the income tax. Even the ‘R’ married to the ‘D’. He is a RINO, but it’s good business.
I really don't think the fact that Lake County doesn't have an income tax "pisses off" Mitch Daniels. Why would it?
Just about all of the on-air personalities I have heard on WJOB are brain-dead. Can't think of one that isn't. The "'R' married to a 'D'" obviously knows which side his bread is buttered. Without his Wife to peddle whatever degree of influence she has, he is a fifth wheel. Has anybody really nailed down exactly what he does for a living, besides schmooze? Even The Mouth That Roared (his buddy Kuziak) could arguably put food on the table without the Democratic machine behind him, but other than fetch coats, open doors, and make doughnut runs for LC Democratic politicians, what skill set does Mr. Reardon bring to any employer?
