Big article in the Tribune today about Mexican illegals moving back to the home country.
This is the "self deportation" that Romney was so ridiculed for.
It torques me up that you can work at a hair salon or bakery in this country without having a valid Socialist Insecurity number. The government knows damn well who is legal and who is illegal in this country, the names don't gibe on the SS info.
If illegals can't work and do other things like drive, they're not going to stay in the country, as this article implies.
The big thing is the kids' education. We see the family in the article decide to leave because the kids can't go to college.
But why are illegals given access to primary education in the first place? Maybe more people would make this family's decision earlier if their kids couldn't get into public schools, no questions asked.
Illegal immigration is a solvable problem, easily solved in fact. And it is the government's responsibility to do so. That the government doesn't do what it should be doing, and fails to solve this problem, is why I am so skeptical of government in general.

That self deportation happened during Eisenhower administration. However, the how and why is a lot better story than whats going on right now.
In all honesty however, we don't have an immigration problem, we have a visa problem. 2 term Republican Gov. Gary Johnson tried to explain that in the Republican primary process for President, but when you're only allowed in one debate, its hard to get your message across.
