This is an underreported story.
BP wants to do some work on a pipeline crossing of a ditch near St. John. The pipeline goes over the ditch, and BP wants to repaint the portion above ground and replace a couple of supports. This is very minor work.
But because of a certain former Republican Surveyor candidate who happens to work for BP, and who happened to completely humiliate Van Til during the election (although Van Til had the last laugh by actually winning), Van Til is taking it to BP. He is demanding that, rather than just repainting the crossing, that the pipeline be replaced and buried under the ditch.
He uses Enbridge as an example. Enbridge is replacing their pipeline throughout Lake County, and they are making concession after concession to Van Til. As a result, he is even more full of himself then normal.
Of course, if you are replacing a pipeline entirely, it may have very little incremental cost to bury it under a ditch rather than go over it. It might pay to get quick approval, in fact.
But no one would accept, say, having the government say that you had to replace your siding when you went in to get a permit to just paint it, which is essentially what Van Til is saying to BP.
BTW, what the f ever happened to that FBI raid of Van Til's office? Grand jury?

Buzz, you should issue a press release telling the post and the times why this is a load of shit that requires debunking.
63.17% George W. Van Til (D)
36.83% Eric Krieg (R)
A real humiliation there.
Hey, I did say that he ultimately won. But he was bitching and moaning to the Times every time there was a negative front page story about how he was mismanaging his office, which was 3 times a week.
He complained that the Times printed a story, "everytime Krieg farted". Very classy.
Your churlishness reinforces my point.
Your point is that election results determine what is good blogging? Or is your point that you're a hyperpartisan who doesn't care how this affects the chances of businesses coming to Lake County?
Who would want to lay pipeline anywhere near where George Van Til has authority if they have any choice in the matter at all?
Your idea of "good blogging" doubly reinforces my point.
Buzzcut, you used to attract a higher class of troll. What happened?
It seems de rigueur here to call names in lieu of pursuing an actual discourse. Maybe, instead of a higher class of troll, Mr. Buzzcut has attracted a lower class of readers. And yes, that includes me.
